Washington County’s Courthouse will be closed until Monday July 13 while employees move to new offices. Machias District Court and Washington County Superior Court will be closed July 8,9,10 and 13. Calais and Ellsworth District Courts will handle emergency filings, such as protection orders. Non-emergency filings may be taken to Calais District Court or mailed to Machias District Court and Washington County Superior Court at P.O. Box 526, Machias 04654.
The new offices were constructed as part of an 8.3 million dollar renovation project. County Manager Betsy Fitzgerald told the Bangor Daily News “25 people are moving in 25 different directions right now.”
When the courthouse reopens, the public entrance will move to Cooper Street, from Court Street. The renovation project is expected to be completed in December.
