On July 23, 2015 at approximately 0005 hours the Waldo County Communications Center received a 911 report of a domestic disturbance at a residence on the South Horseback Road in the Town of Burnham. Deputies Dan Thompson, Kyle Wasiela and Wiley McVety responded to the call.
Deputies conducted an investigation and learned that the victim had agreed to meet and talk with her estranged boyfriend, Robert Later, 35 years old of Burnham, to discuss their relationship and common children. Deputies learned that once at the residence, the couple began to argue. When the victim attempted to leave the residence, Mr. Later refused to allow her to leave and obstructed her ability to leave the residence. During the incident the victim alleges that Mr. Later physically restrained her and took her phone restricting her ability to call for assistance. Deputies also learned there was an active protection order on behalf of the victim restricting Mr. Later from having contact with her.
Due to the evidence gathered during the investigation, Mr. Later was arrested and charged with Domestic Assault, Class D, Criminal Restraint, Class D, Obstructing the Report of a Crime, Class D and Violation of a Protection Order, Class D. Mr. Later was transported to the Waldo County Correctional Center and held without bail due to the violation of the protection order charge.
