Cruise Ships

(Bar Harbor) – It’s not exactly the high summer season in Bar Harbor as temperatures hover just above freezing, but the first cruise ship of the season is due in this coming weekend.  The Amadea is small by comparison to the big cruise line ships, carrying about 900 passengers and crew.  The cruise ship schedule for Bar Harbor has 171 visits scheduled between Sunday and next Fall.  That’s up 66 from last year’s actual visits.

 

Motorcycle Rip off

(Bangor) – About the last group of people you’d want to steal from is a motorcycle club – especially when the club is made up of the police.  A 46-year old Carmel woman faces theft charges from doing just that.  The Bangor Daily News reports Bessie Small allegedly took more than $200-thousand dollars from the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club which is made up of police from many nations.  Assistant D-A Stephen Burlock says Small was the office manager for the Blue Knights and wrote checks to herself and third parties, and hesitated when club leaders asked for copies of the cleared checks.

 

Milford Flooding

(Milford) – Melting snow has caused a couple of roads in the Town of Milford to close down.  WABI-TV reports both the Greenfield and Call Roads were under water, though the flooding is expected to recede quickly.  Both roads are low lying travel ways near the Penobscot River and often flood in the spring.

Domestic Incident

(Morrill) A verbal disagreement between a Morrill couple turned physical and ended with one man in jail. The Waldo County Sheriff’s Office reports 30-year-old Brett Armstrong was arguing with his domestic partner when things got heated and he allegedly hit the woman. Deputies responded last Saturday and investigated, then arrested Armstrong for Domestic Violence Assault. He was later released from the Waldo County Correctional Center on $500 cash bail.

Assault & Threats

(Stockton Springs) A Stockton Springs man is held without bail after he allegedly struck a woman and threatened to kill her. The victim told Waldo County deputies she was arguing with 22-year-old Marshall Crockett last Friday when he threatened to kill her and her family if she tried to leave. Things escalated when Crockett allegedly took her phone away and pointed a loaded gun at her. Deputies recovered the gun and also found drugs and drug paraphernalia. Crockett is charged with Domestic Assault, Domestic Terrorizing, Criminal Threatening, Reckless Conduct, and Obstructing the Report of a Crime.

 

Chef’s Gala Update

(Ellsworth) Maine Coast Memorial Hospital is looking for a few good men and women to volunteer at the 24th annual Chef’s Gala. Philanthropy Director Jack Frost says volunteers who commit to a few hours waiting tables and cleaning up on Saturday, April 29th can win prizes. Child Porn

(Bangor) A Bangor man will spend more than 10 years for possessing child porn. After 58-year-old Ernest Cook gets out, he will spend 15 years of supervised release. Court records say in December 2014 the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office got a tip about Cook’s activities. Deputies seized his computer and flash drive and found the illegal material downloaded from the internet. Cook also must pay more than 16-thousand-dollars in restitution.

Drug Plea

 

(Bangor) A Bangor man who sold drugs to an undercover informant faces up to 20-years in prison and a million-dollar fine. 32-year-old John Oliveira pleaded guilty to distribution of fentanyl yesterday in Bangor Federal Court. The US Attorney’s office reports to Star 97.7 that Oliveira sold the drugs last August. He’ll be sentenced after the U.S. Probation Office completes a pre-sentence report.

COA Harvest

(Bar Harbor) College of the Atlantic’s farm-based and student-coordinated food access program, Share the Harvest, is taking applications for this season. Share the Harvest works in conjunction with existing food-access programs and organizations throughout MDI and also distributes farm-stand vouchers and subsidized farm shares to community members in need.
