Northfield Fatal

(Northfield) – Deputies say an 18-year old drove his pickup truck onto the wrong side of Route 192 in Northfield and slammed into a partially loaded blueberry truck.  The crash killed Cameron Roberts and badly injured his 16-year old passenger.  Chief Deputy Michael Crabtree tells Star 97.7 rescuers had to cut the passenger from the pickup truck’s wreckage and the Life Flight helicopter flew him to a Bangor hospital.  The blueberry truck driver went to the hospital in Machias with minor injuries.  Investigators closed the road for hours while they reconstructed the crash.

Life Sentence

(Bangor) – A 37-year old Aroostook County man will call a prison cell his home for the rest of his life.  A judge imposed the life sentence on Anthony Lord yesterday, more than 2-years after a rampage left two men dead and three others wounded, a burned barn, a high speed chase, and a person injured in a hammer assault.  Lord’s lawyers told the court their client suffered from PTSD after his 2-and-a-half month old son died in May 2015.  Another person awaits trial in the son’s death.  Lord has a lengthy criminal history and was on the sex offender registry.

 

Bad Checks/Unregistered Truck

(Stonington) Police have charged a Stonington woman with theft and forgery after she allegedly stole checks from her roommate. The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department reports a Deer Isle man alerted them to the stolen checks last month after 21-year-old Rachel Emond cashed 9 of them at a local business. Deputy Frank Jennings pulled over Emond a week later for operating an unregistered, uninsured truck with an expired driver’s license. He says Bucksport police pulled her over for the same violations a month earlier. Emond appears in court in September.

 

Baby Dies-Dog To Be Euthanized

(Bangor) – A veterinarian will administer a fatal shot to a shepherd/husky mix dog in Bangor that mauled a 21-day old boy to death.  Bangor police call the July 29th incident a tragic accident.  An Aroostook County family was visiting relatives in Bangor when their dog attacked the baby as it slept in a bassinette. Police have not identified them, but say the dog had never been aggressive before.  No humans will face charges in the death.

Captain Appeals

(Searsport) – The Appeals Board in Searsport will consider whether a fire captain should get his job back tonight.  Village Soup dot-com reports town officials fired A.J. Koch for unpublicized reasons late last month.  Tonight’s meeting is a continuation of closed door meeting last week that considered the reasons for Koch’s firing.

  • Former Red Sox player Don Baylor has died at the age of 68.  Baylor helped lead the Sox in 1986 when they lost to the Mets in the World Series in 7-games.
  • and former Patriot’s defensive lineman Vince Wilfork has retired, announcing it in a commercial for a charcoal brand.
